Want to Be a VJ?

VJ is short for visual jockey. The job of VJ is to source and create digital images and mix them together to provide a visual backdrop to the music experience in clubs, raves and also at live gigs and performances.

In a club VJs will work closely with a DJ to synch up with their mixing, scratching or cutting up of records. At a live performance the visuals might add to the story being told in a song. Almost all venues now have a VJ and many bands also travel with a visual jockey as part of their live experience.

Work based learning gives people the chance to expand their knowledge while earning a wage at work. You can learn essential skills for the future such as computer literacy, communication skills, teamwork and how to meet deadlines.

Work based learning courses are designed to fit around you and your employers needs. This means you could agree with your employer to leave the office to study one day a week or so, go to workshops or take up evening classes.

There are loads of ways to see what options are available to you:

* Search the internet
* Inquire at your university or college about options.

I stopped working when I got pregnant. It’s been few months from now. It excites me at first because I can do many things at my own time. I can go to the mall or even visit a friend during weekdays. I can also wake up late in the morning. I can sleep all day. But these things are just at start. As months or days goes by, boredom will come to you. But thanks to the internet that makes my time consume well in a wonderful and productive way. I usually browse different informative sites and I write to earn as my sideline. But these things will come to an end. My baby will finally come soon. I have my new job now as a mom to my son. It’s a different job among others because dedication and patience should be given. I have to prepare myself physically, emotionally and mentally for that time.

As a parent, you want to give the best for your children. You want them to feel what a child in the metro should get. You want something that deserves them to give or better. One important thing that a parent like us could give to them is education. Since that my baby is too young, I have much time to save his tuition fees. I know by that time tuition fees are already increases. So I have to work hard in my earnings. I prefer a good school for my child. I know that this school have an interview and entrance exam. So, I will train and teach my baby to read and count numbers at early age. At 6 months or 1 year old, I want him to go on a playroom to develop his social skills. I will also enrol him in certain program like music for him to discover his talent niche. I have lots of plans for my baby in the future. I am so excited when he go to school.

Having your own time and manage it is a practice were everybody dream of.You can wake up late in the morning without rushing yourself going to the office. If your work is at your home that could be another good factor because it can lessen your transportation dues. You earn your own at your own time. There’s no 8 to 9 hours woking in 5 or 6 days. But still it depends because if you are a businessman, the working hours you have is flexible yet unpredicatable. The good side of working at your own is that you control your time and have lots of it. You can go to the mall or stays in the house whichever you like. But the downfall of it, the boredom is still there. Some of your friends are working in traditional working  time so at your own pace of time, you have few people who can accompany you. Sometimes, it is sad to be alone and being impatient waiting for your colleagues day off for you to have a happy hour.

Nowadays, couple decided to work together to provide their family a better lifestyle. We experience economic crisis so, double source of income is a must. Our economy standing is unpredictable so we never know if our company will be affected to the downfall. It’s better to be ready.

The common worries of the working parents is the lookout for their children. If their schedule didn’t meet their needs, they have to seek help from somebody. They could hire yayas or helper to take care of their kids when they are away for work. They can also ask help from their relatives or close friend. These were the worries for those kids who are still young. But if they are at the right age and capable to take care of themselves, there will no problem in this case. The advantage of this to the kids is that they will be train to be independent.

Parents should help each other to become a good provider for the family. Sharing in all expenses and even in household chores should be distributed equally to make this strategy work.

Behind Man’s Success

There’s a belief that “Behind man’s success is a woman”. How can this be true? I agree with this belief. It is usually happens in a couple where they have to support each other at all aspect. Building a strong foundation of trust and relationship really helps. When you have this, motivating your partner in doing his own thing is now easy. Uplift his spirit and serve’s as a coach can help in pushing him to the road of success. But first, knowing his goal or wants should be done first or you will end up pushing him doing things that against his will. Listening is the key. When he asked for your opinion, just give the pros and cons of each so that he could have an option. Be a great adviser but don’t disappoint if sometimes, he didn’t listen to you. He will learn on his own way but in the end, he will still consider the thoughts of yours. Praise your husband if he done good things or if he looks good. Man’s needs to be appreciated sometimes. It can increase their self esteem and confidence as well. If a man have a strong confidant at home, he could do better in his work.

Due to economic crisis, most people decided to work abroad. This is usually the agenda of the people live  in Asia. With the higher exchange rate of money, they prefer to have an adventure in  different country. When they were a stranger in different country, they have to learn the culture and the language as well. There are countries that most of their people doesn’t speak English. So, to be capable it’s better to learn even a little for conversation. Culture and tradition plays an important part. You have to be aware so that you will know your boundaries to respect  them.

Being in different country, your major hindrances is homesickness. You missed your family and your country during the first month of your stay. But as you go along, your body is now adjusted to the new sorrounding. You already adapted their lifestyle. But be careful and spend wisely. Just always remember your goal why you are away from your family and working abroad.

Doing Work right at the first time!

Working in a corporation or any business entity is the common goal of an individual. Student keeps on studying in order for them to have a college degree which will serve as a passport of acquiring a job. After graduation, you can see on their face the excitement in looking for a job and willingness to do anything just to have a position in a corporate world. Once hired, this individual will then try to make a mark on their company or attempt to be recognized immediately. This is common fact and I believe that this attitude is normal in the beginning.  However, as years pass by, the determination demonstrated in beginning will slowly diminish and the worst scenario is that might also lead to resignation.

If this case frequently happens in your company, then there might be wrong in the organization or your might had hired a wrong individual. Base on experience and observation, people who got hired and resigned after a couple years  had reached any of the following condition in a short period of time:

  • First - they found out that the job they have now is not the kind of job they wanted.
  • Second- they got bored because of the routine task they do
  • Third - they believe that better opportunity is waiting outside that offers greener pasture.
  • Fourth- they can don’t like the system being implemented by the management of the company.
  • Fifth- totally not satisfied on the status of their career.

But who suffers in end? On my point of view, both the employer and employee will suffer in the end. Employer will suffer because they will do again the hiring process and training of new candidates for employment, they might have lost a good employee, work performance of the group might be affected and will incur unwanted additional cost. Employee on the other hand will suffer since they are to look for new employment, build new working relationship and might have wasted time , effort and growth opportunity,

The learning point is that both employee and employer should take extra effort before entering in employment of Contract. Everything should be clear from the start as to work conditions, benefits, career plan and other.  Hence, both hiring and accepting task should be done RIGHT AT THE FIRST TIME!

The Omni Hotel * 700 San Jacinto at 8th Street * Austin, Texas 78701 * Phone: (512) 476-3700, Fax: (512) 397-4888
* Omni Downtown homepage

An elegant riche hotel in the heart of downtown Austin in the famous Omniplex building. Within walking distance from the convention center, 6th street, Red River, and Austin’s famous nighttime activities. The staff was friendly and eager to please. But the hotel is definitely centered around those with money. They force a concessions deposit with the room in case you get late night munchies out of the bar-fridge in the room: tiny jar of cashews for $6.50, $4 for a small bag of potato chips, $2.50 for a snickers bar. Lets not even approach the cost to the liquor or room service. They are certainly out for your money in elegance of course! Extra costs for everything - you get more bang for your buck at the Holiday Inn. No free breakfast even though you’re paying in excess of $120/night. There is a gym, swimming pool, and hot tub on the roof. Rating: 3 stars out of 5.

What is there to wear? Retailers confused on boomer fashion

April 18, 2007 by Nancy · Leave a Comment

I just read an interesting article on the fashion frustrations many female boomers are experiencing.

It seems that specialty clothing stores (like Forth & Town, Janeville and Martin + Osa) are having trouble catering to baby boomers. They just can’t seem to figure out what older shoppers want.

What’s the problem?

Stores are making a mistake in segregating boomers, said Candace Corlett, principal at WSL Strategic Retail, a retail consultancy.

“The bodies may change, but the spirit is a lot slower to change,” she said. “When you move into your 50s, you don’t become less trendy. You may adjust because you have a different body, but it doesn’t mean you abandon the looks you love.”

Even Chico’s, “which pioneered the retail concept for selling to boomers,” is having this problem and seeing sales drop as a result.

On the flip side, though, once-disappointing department stores are now “starting to see their fortunes reverse” in this — err — department. While specialty stores falter, stores like Macy’s are really learning how to connect with older women — definitely something to consider the next time you go shopping…

Employee of the Century

“Buster” Martin is 100 years old and is the oldest Briton worker. He is a mechanic and he says that he has no plans to retire anytime soon or he could become a “miserable sod”.

“Boredom is a big killer of men,” he told the Daily Telegraph. “I went back to work because I like to keep active,” adding that if he ever retired he would become “the most miserable sod you have come across.”

The centenarian, who grew up in an orphanage and first married when he was 14, joined the Grenadier Guards and served in World War II before switching to the Navy.

In more recent years he worked on London market stalls. He now lives in south London, where one of his few concessions to modern technology is a television.

The Number One Boomer

July 8, 2006 by Marsha James · 1 Comment

The world’s number one boomer quietly turned 60 this week and I wondered if aging one more year made a difference in anything. Such as he’s fit and has money galore, and he is also the world’s most powerful person, so the need of social security, medical health plan and medication isn’t something he personally worries about.

But can he understand why the rest of the boomers do have to worry? When they must choose between having dinner today or taking their heart medicine? I hope turning one more year, also means he’s not only one more year wiser but can understand the needs of the other boomers around him.

At this point many boomers who should have retired already are still working and although some do it because they still want to, lots more do it because they have no choice. Many lost everything in scandals such as Enron and are almost starting from scratch which is damn sad.
