Walk Faster Lady!

Mayvis Coyle a 78 year old senior was shuffling across the street with her cane on Feb 15 and didn’t not make it across before the light changed from green to red. She then recieved a $114 ticket from a motorcycle Police Officer, who told her she was obstructing traffic.

Sgt. Mike Zaboski of the Valley Traffic Division said that the police were cutting down on pedestrian accidents and also said it was Coyle’s word against the police officer’s. Other people support the elderly woman, saying that the light just doesn’t give pedestrians enough time to cross before it changes in 20 seconds.

High School students even have trouble making it across in the 20 second period and have to run to make it. I would think that they would understand that a 78 year old woman with a cane, might have a little bit of a problem trying to “dash” across the street.

  2. It is terrible to fine a 78 year old woman this way. Twenty seconds is not enough for many people to cross the road and for her it was trouble enough. I just wish that law enforcers can sometimes treat people with common sense more.
